Prof. Nikki Robertson (MB ChB, PhD)

Professor of Perinatal Neuroscience at UCL,
Head of Neonatology Research Department and Honorary Consultant Neonatologist at UCLH

Nikki is a clinician scientist and has been researching melatonin and other potential therapies for babies with HIE for more than 20 years at UCL. Nikki works as a consultant neonatologist at UCLH; she has a keen focus on improving outcomes for babies across the world. Nikki has been a mentor and supervisor to >25 PhD students, is a Board member of the Newborn Brain Society and has published over 250 original research articles relating to brain protection in babies.

Dr. Raymand Pang (MB ChB, PhD)

Ray is a neonatal doctor and researcher who has developed his interest in melatonin and neuroprotection for babies with HIE during his PhD under the supervision of Professor Nikki Robertson at UCL. He has published research articles on melatonin in preclinical studies. In addition to interests in neuroprotection, he is also interested in how biomarkers can be used as tools to understand HIE and target babies who are most likely to benefit from future therapies.

UCL Comprehensive Clinical Trial Unit

The Comprehensive Clinical Trials Unit at UCL (CCTU) collaborates with researchers to design, conduct, analyse and publish clinical trials and other well-designed studies. The CCTU is a registered CTU and coordinates multi-centre clinical trials (i.e. has overall responsibility for the design, development, recruitment, data management and analysis of trials) with robust systems to ensure the highest quality standards of conduct and delivery of clinical trials.The CCTU provides clinical, statistical and trial operations leadership. It also facilitates the delivery of high quality, regulatory compliant clinical trials of both investigational medicinal products (which must be conducted in compliance with the UK Regulations governing the conduct of clinical trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (IMP)) and other non-IMP trials and studies.

UCL Translational Research Office

The Translational Research Office (TRO) facilitates the translation of UCL’s emerging research into therapies, techniques and medical products. As an expert team of applied scientists and business developers, TRO supports researchers in realising their translational ambition by offering strategic advice, funding support, and bridging the gap with industry to help establish collaborations that drive the pipeline of therapeutic, device and diagnostic innovations.
